Choosing A Wedding Photographer
Choosing a Wedding photographer is a mixture of finding the right personality and finding the right style.
Your Photographer’s Personality
Look for a photographer that takes great
pictures, but is also sociable while doing so. The best time
to find out what personality your photographer has is in the
interview. Ask pointed questions and gauge his/her reactions.
If you feel as if the photographer is putting on an act for your
benefit, he/she probably is. Trust your instincts! Ask for references
and then follow up on them. If you feel comfortable with the
photographer and vice versa, it will show in the pictures.
Your Photographer's Style
Decide whether you like traditional, posed or photojournalistic photography.
Find a photographer with a style you like by taking the time to review their
portfolio oftentimes a photographer will have an online portfolio. When you
find a portfolio you like, schedule an interview.
Tips for Getting Great Wedding Day Photographs
- Be sure you are interviewing the photographer who will be shooting your wedding, as some studios have many photographers.
- Be sure to ask how long will it take to receive the proofs? How will the proofs arrive, cd, proof album, or prints in a box?
- Find out how much the photographers charge. Some photographers charge for their time and have you pay additionally for prints and albums, others have a complete package. Some will include your negatives or a high-resolution CD. Be Smart and know what you are paying for.
- Know your sunset time. Sunset is when some of the most beautiful wedding images are created. Plan the ceremony accordingly so there is plenty of time for formals and sunset images.
- If you are going to have a ceremony outdoors plan it away from the harsh sun. Shaded areas and afternoon sunlight are best.
- Plan enough time for your photographic session. Even if the wedding photographer is good he or she won't be able to give you wonderful photos in just five minutes.
